President Harold Sargent called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.

  1. Review & Approval of Previous Minutes. The proposed May 4, 1998 minutes were reviewed and unanimously approved with the correction of 6.a. to read a.m. instead of p.m.
  2. Review & Approval of Financial Statements. The May 1998 financial statement was reviewed and unanimously accepted.
  3. Operator's Report.
    1. a. Water use. 64,583 gpd. which is up from last month.
    2. b. Operators' Reports.
      1. The meter at 13 Palmer Lane was found to have frozen up and was broken when Marc went to turn the water on for the new owner. Marc replaced it and also installed a reader. The clerk was directed to send a bill for the new meter to the new owner.
      2. A call was received by the clerk from the Lewis Morris residence on Sunday evening, May 24 saying that their water pressure had dropped drastically. On checking the upper tank, Marc found that a power surge probably caused by lightning had burned out the control box. He replaced the box.
      3. Marc and Harold plan to finish flushing the system on Wednesday, June 3rd from 9:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. The clerk was directed to inform Browns River Middle School of this and to place a poster in the Post Office to notify the public.
      4. c. Other. None

4. Customer concerns.

Senator Jeffords' office called the clerk in response to a letter they had received from Doug Richmond. She informed them that we, too, had received a note from Mr. Richmond regarding our fees and questioning whether we used "pineapple pesticides". In response to their inquiry she sent them a copy of Mr. Richmond's note, Harold's letter in response to his note, a copy of the research on "pineapple pesticides" that Harold obtained prior to writing the letter, and a copy of our regulations explaining our fees, etc.

5. Old Business.

  1. Poker Hill project. The board discussed the project addressing such subjects as whether a blowoff is needed on Barrett Lane, a 4" line is needed and temporary water service for the customers who will be affected by the project. Harold will gather data and prepare a proposal.
  2. Proposed berm construction at Pump House No. 1. Pat Lamphere is available to do this project.

 

c. Flushing reports. Harold and Marc flushed part of the system (Raceway Road, the blowoff on Route 15 at the D. Villeneuve property, and the hydrant on Poker Hill) on May 6, 1998. The water was mildly colored. Notices were posted and Browns River Middle School was notified prior to the flushing.

d. Other. None

6. New Business.

a. Tank painting proposal received from Pittsburg Paint Company. An unsolicited proposal for painting the tank has been received from Pittsburg Tank and Tower Company.

b. Notice of favorable pesticide report? Harold introduced the idea of a possible newspaper article regarding the district's favorable pesticide report. After a discussion it was decided to wait for the results of the VOC, IOC, etc. testing and discuss the issue further at a future meeting.

c. New reader and meter head installed at library. This was correctly completed including an electrical ground. An inspection was completed by Harold.

d. Other.

  1. The new dehumidifier is keeping the Control Building dry.
  2. The Board discussed that this is a good time of year to paint the exposed pipes in the Control Building. It was suggested that Bob Fowler be contacted for an estimate. A motion was made and carried to authorize up to $100 for this project. The Board will also supply the paint.
  3. There are a number of outside readers to be installed this summer.

7. Bills to review & approve for payment. The bills were reviewed and approved for payment.

8. Adjournment. The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
